UEFA Executive Committee has decided what rules will be applied during qualifications for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine.
It will be a total of 9 qualification groups, within which will host matches for Euro 2012 qualifying. 6 of groups will be composed of six teams, in the remaining 3 groups there will be five teams. Only the best one from each group and the team that will be the best of those who finished in second place will get a promotion. The eight remaining teams from the second places will play in four playoffs. The winners of play-off will play in Euro 2012. Qualification matches will be played from September 2010 to November 2011.
Draw for qualifying will take place on February 7, 2010 in the Palace of Culture and Science in Warsaw.
Spanish, as they will defend the championship title, will automatically be included in the first pot. The remaining 51 teams that will join the elimination are divided into six pots. This division is based on the ranking which contains the results of the UEFA and World Cup qualifiers in 2010.
